Who Bewitched You, Oh Africa? Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Who Bewitched You, Oh Africa?

Rating: 5.0

Who bewitched you oh Africa,
With your vibrant colors and diverse fauna?
Your lands stretch far and wide like a cloud,
A continent full of beauty and pride.

From the savannahs to the sea
The landscapes bring people to their knees.
The rhythm of your drums is a song of melodies
Echo through the soul and hums.

Your people, resilient and strong like an eagle,
Their spirit and culture, forever long.
Oh Africa, the birthplace of humanity,
Your history and heritage, a rich tapestry.

But with all your glory and charm,
You've also faced many harms.
Colonized, exploited, and torn apart,
Yet you rise again with a fiery heart.

But who could resist your allure,
For you hold a magic that's pure.
From the Sahara to the feet of the earth,
Your spell, anyone can escape.
So who bewitched you oh Africa?

You are a wonder, a mystic enigma.
I am captivated, I am in awe,
For you are more than just a piece of land to explore.
You are a symbol of resilience and hope,
A place where dreams and cultures can cope.

Oh Africa, who bewitched you?
Your son's and daughters are displayed and homeless
Their tears are on their cheeks like a river
Under afflictions and seetitude they dwell.

Corruption and terrorism reign,
The son's and daughters are like dear that find no pasture.
The road to Africa mourn
Her gates are resolute and splendor has departed.
Africa my Africa!
Who has bewitched you?
