Who Has Changed....? Poem by Dawn Eve Bradley

Who Has Changed....?

You have changed,
Yet you say you have not.
I am no fool,
No pebble can be tossed to the mercy of the seas
Without gradually eroding,
But you were the boulder hurtling down the cliff face
To smash into infinite pieces below.

I say you have changed
Yet you say you have not.
I am not naive,
No man can buy roses roses each day
Without the perfumed gift becoming a familiar fragrance,
But you were the florist that suddenly shut up shop
And went to seed.

I know you have changed
Yet you say you have not.
I am not immature,
No man can expect to retain their youthful beauty
Without the lines of knowledge crowding the face of time,
But you were the youth striving fro aged information
Whilst leaving the present hourly.

I hoped you may see
But you said you would not.
I am not unfeeling.
No man can expect the blustering gales of experience to blow by
Without pushing them back in the face of the winds,
But you were the nightingale coveting a thorn bush
And I watched you in helpless dismay.
