Who Was The Man? Poem by Mohon Raihan

Who Was The Man?

Rating: 5.0

Did the Man distribute relief goods
during the famine?
Did he provide shelter to the
flood-stricken,
or easily prevent the oncoming
of awful epidemics?

If not, why are you all weeping
so disconsolately at his death?
why is his eighteen year old sister
beside herself with grief,
why does his mother throw herself
on the ground,
Why does his father,
never too happy with his son,
now shed secret tears,
and why does his one-time beloved
now heave deep sighs
as she takes care of her
husband's household?

The Man was a lover
and a rebel.
He stood up against injustice and lies,
against ignorance and ugliness,
against killing and bloodshed,
against rape and mass-plunder
and all illicit relationships.

The Man was a believer
and a red bold rebel
against the Gods.
He was a man and
a poet.
