Who Would Have Known? Poem by Success Sibanda

Who Would Have Known?

With splendour the sun rose
Scattering its rays of gold
Like the petals of the marigold
Upon us was dawn
With its promises of sorrow and joy

Who would have known,
What lay in the unknown,
Waiting to be made known
Or never to be made known?
Who would have known?

Each day is different from the other
Nothing can we do to save one another
From what lies in the unknown
Our fate will be bestowed
With every fall of dawn
What will be shall be

The sun might rise
Behind a mask of clouds,
The sun might rise
Amidst the patter-pattering of rain,
The sun might rise
Adorning a blue sky
What will be shall be

The unknown will decide its own fate
Fate will reign till the end
The end nobody can tell
Who would have known?
