Why Did You Let Me Go? Poem by Nour Mohammad Yousef

Why Did You Let Me Go?

Maybe it wasn't something important to you
But it was my heart
I traded the world for you
So why did you let me down?

I thought we had something special
A connection deeper than the oceans
But now I see it was all a facade
A mirage of love that quickly faded

I gave you my all
My trust, my time, my affection
I thought you were different
But you turned out to be just like the rest

I poured my soul into us
I believed in the promises you made
But now I see they were empty words
Lies to keep me hanging on

I was foolish to think you were the one
To think that we were meant to be
But now I see the truth
You were never truly mine

I'm left with a broken heart
Shattered into a million pieces
And all I can do is wonder
Why did you let me down?

Was I not worth fighting for?
Was I not worth your time?
Did my love mean nothing to you?
Was it all just a game to pass the time?

I thought I knew you
I thought we shared something real
But now I see you for who you truly are
A heartbreaker, a deceiver, a liar

I'll pick up the pieces of my heart
I'll mend it back together
But a part of me will always wonder
Why did you let me down?

I'll move on, I'll find someone new
Someone who values me for who I am
Someone who won't let me down
Someone who will cherish my heart

And maybe one day you'll realize
The mistake you made in letting me go
But by then it'll be too late
I'll have moved on to better things

So goodbye, and good riddance
I won't look back in anger or regret
I'll let go of the pain you caused
And I'll find happiness once more

Because maybe it wasn't something important to you
But it was my heart
And I deserve someone who will treasure it
Someone who won't let me down.
