Why Don'T They Feel Ashamed? Poem by Ali Rahimi

Why Don'T They Feel Ashamed?

Laws, religious injunctions urge us to be nice,
Friendly, decent, generous, and honest,
Pay taxes, help the needy, feel guilty for wrongdoings,
Respect the elderly,
And stay away from crime, robbery, rape, and adultery,
Treason, corruption, lustfulness, and felony,
Yes sweetheart, deception and trickery are shameful acts,
But the knaves are not ashamed,
They don’t have even false guilt,
Just rationalize, deny or blame others,
Never find themselves at fault,
Why don’t they feel ashamed?
Like O. J. Simpson or Julius Rosenberg,
Or Josef locking up his daughter in a basement
Fathering seven children with her,
Insanity, guiltless, shameless offense,
Manslaughter is wicked,
But it’s been shamelessly, systematically carried out,
Torture and harassment are outrageous deeds,
But they are their daily fun,
Why don’t they feel ashamed?
They are just not guilt-prone, are shame-free!
Polygamy is disgraceful and disgusting,
But the powerful horny pigs are happy in the shit,
Sex pistols targeting the poor and miserable,
Yes, just do it and dump them! no feeling, no attachment, no morality, no ethicality,
Or a struggle between the ego and the superego – parental imprinting?
What was your childhood like?
What was your childhood like?
Some indulge in hypersextuality,
Dysfunctional families, a corrosive inability to emotionally connect,
When they passionately copulate,
Wedding rings, and engagement rings glitter on their fingers,
Why don’t they feel ashamed?
Some watch pornography movies and masturbate at work,
They wet their beds, don’t know their elbows from their asses,
Can’t say a boo to a goose,
Driven by a primeval drive,
Must fulfill their animalistic urges,
But why are they?
Should they be?
Why don’t they feel ashamed?
They have no guilt, no remorse, no compunction,
No inner sense of unease,
Lady Macbeth is tormented,
By a sense of guilt,
To the point of becoming insane,
But they think they have done wonderfully good,
They are held dear by some,
Walk like peacocks,
Does it matter? They don’t give a rats’ arse, they are on cloud nine!
Why don’t they feel ashamed? ...
