Why I Write Poem by Ndeipanda Aindongo

Why I Write

I do not write so you can dub me the pied piper,
I do not intend to be more cryptic that a shift cipher,
Neither do i write in attendance of those hungering for buffoonery.
I WRITE, so cataracts can fall from every third eye till it sees clearly.
I, write to salvage your minds out of their diapers
and rid them of the manure that's filling them to seams
like prison yards filling up with 25 to lifers
who have forgotten, that freedom once frequented in their dreams.

I do not write to give weight to misconceptions about how deep poets are
but as as poet, I vow to be an itinerant preacher
Bringing good news to the fatherless kids who are also spiritually neglected.
I WRITE, to shed light on those dark places we all seem to be ok with,
Those alleyways we transverse daily
without paying mind to the grey haired man, sitting in the corner waiting,
anticipating a visit from the grimm reaper, to haul off into the next world.
This why I write, to give a voice to those cries we would otherwise never have heard.

many who seem wide are wake really in a deep slumber,
they do not realize they are blind though everywhere, they stumble
and they go around boasting about how much they are humble
but forget to mention that their minds are filled with rubble.
I write to make known to all,
that there is nothing worth your soul
not even knowledge in itself.
