Why Not Love? (Sonnet 8) Poem by Robert Lawrence

Why Not Love? (Sonnet 8)

I ask the stars a curious question
'Why do you dwell in the night sky? '
It's just a thought, just a suggestion;
but what if you can answer why
Why do you stand alone, in quiet nights?
Why not break free, and feel the love?
Why not, because alone you deeply sigh
Why not break through and live beneath the above?
Beneath the deep chariot of summer love
Glistening and golden, and deeply admired
Why not become what cannot be moved?
Why not be the one who is desired?
Instead of dwelling in that silent sky
You could be a king, your queen by your side
