Wild Thing Poem by Russel Tanner

Wild Thing

Cat
When she shows interest in you
Purring
Willing her to draw closer
Flirting

Tiger
When you see somebody else
Too near
Daring with snarled teeth
To face fear

Anyone and everyone
Who tries to take your place

Sometimes it’s not your place
At all

Mutt
When she’s angry with you
Begging
With your puppy-dog eyes
In vain

Worm
When she completely ignores you
Crawling
To that non-existent hiding place
Hoping

Maybe, just maybe
Today she will understand

Don’t you ever give up
Where there’s a will, there’s a way
Even on a hot tin roof
You can still slide down the chimney

Just remember

There’s no smoke without fire

Whoever said love was tame?
