Windows And Tears Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Windows And Tears

The glass of the house needs a cloth and a spray,
To wash all the dust of the winter away.
We clear off the smudge and we polish the light,
To keep every corner shining and bright.

But eyes have their windows that need clearing too,
To let in the grace of a sky that is blue.
We wait for a sorrow, or moments of bliss,
Before we remember a washing like this.

Yet some keep the shutters pulled tight to the frame,
Bound by the rules of a cold, older name.
They hide all the tears in a fortress of pride,
With feelings locked up in the shadows inside.

To show how you hurt is a sign of the weak,
Or so says the logic of days that are bleak.
The world asks for strength in a stiff, quiet line,
Forgetting that even the hard stone must shine.
