Winter Delight Poem by Lone Dog

Winter Delight

The woods are muffled deep with snow
In sunlit silence. A wondrous sight;
A wilderness, reborn, transformed,
And blanketed in purest white.

The graceful pines rise stalwartly
Like white cathedrals in the sky,
As shelt'ring limbs droop wearily
With powdered burdens thick and dry.

The beauteous blanket born anew
In purity and freshness lays.
It's tainted not by paths nor tracks
Save my intrusive steps this day.

And now from yon white-laden limb,
In spectacle of sheer delight,
An avalanche of snow gives way
And floats the air with crystals bright.

And in this peaceful sanctity
Of virgin snows untouched, unmarred,
I pause, and view with thankful heart,
The loveliest of Christmas cards.
