Winter Will Poem by Tom Hamilton

Winter Will

After Dickinson

Winter will
market her fresh virgin carpet,
to be sold to the spring a design at a time.

As Summer's engagement promise regrets
to flee with cold feet as deceit's Autumn bride.

Groom trees cry leaves, the ground's gown brown and wet,
raining down past warm windows with a fireplace inside.

Where kindled kids kid and make ground hog bets,
As to whether Miss Weather will sleep past her prime.
