Winter's Hope Poem by DONALD SCHUSTER

Winter's Hope

Winter swirls around me with its' icy stare
Spring's warmth buried so far behind the curtain
of gloom I might not ever find it again
Maybe on good days I might, on bad ones it's too far away.
Today the earth is stolid steely gray, color took flight
long ago.
There is no white lace, no sparkling gleaming ice cycles
only a wall of dank maize, a mirror of my mood.
that has taken constant refuge beside me
too strong to ignore.
But today the words of rhyme are lost melded into
This field of fog.
I am stumbling trying to find reason or any worth
This weight is heavier than an anvil
Staying this course like a feeble walk to perdition,
Is this penance or reward?
Yet
While in this moment
When all has failed God delivers another message,
Reminding that mood is trivial
Things I see should be noticed
Should be held close
Remembered not for the color
Or the poetry
But for the spirit of living knowing in a universe above the clouds,
it's always sunny.
