Wishes Poem by Amy Carr

Wishes

Rating: 5.0

I would so willingly
Fall into your arms
if you held them out
to me.

And I would
stay there as long as
you'd let me, encircled
by their length and warmth,
enclosed in them and safe.

I would bury my face in
your garments, and block
out all the light, and just
rest myself there
in the soundscape of your
heartrhythms.

I would lie on satin covers
in the dead of night,
with you at my side
and quietly listen to
your breath in my ear,
and fall asleep in your sweet smell
and graceful touch.

I want to kiss you
softly on the lips
every time we part
for just a little longer
than I should, lingering
there for a moment to
share a breath, and
touch your reddened
cheek as I say 'Goodbye.”

In this way, my mind
strays to you in almost
every idle moment
slowly tracing
the lines of your face,
imagining the feel
of your skin under my
fingers, trying desperately
to hear your heart through
the noise, until I see you again,
and must pretend
to hardly notice you.
