Wishes Poem by Onome Akpotayobor

Wishes

If wishes were horses, I will be dead.
Righteousness has never been my strong suit, in my journey so far I have incurred the wrath of parents and others alike. I have made mothers sigh and curse, fathers want my skin on their trophy cabinet as compensation, but morality and religion has restricted them. I am elusive to the court's justice thus far; even my folks are disappointed me. These are crimes a gentleman can't talk about, but this is just an excuse to skip past them because I am no gentleman, least you dame my soul These days all I seek is for forgiveness yet I find it hard to forgive myself. When I do sleep, I sleep with one eye close. Daylight scares me not just because it reveals me but my mayhem as it lives on. Please forgive me, this is my wish.
