Should I suffocate in this husk?
This cocoon, a deflated ballon, a plastic wrapping
I can't tear away
Even as I twitch and move
Like rotting skin that can't be scrubbed away
What a stifling way to live!
Enclosed in my own guilt and shame,
Painted over me like an old advertisement,
Crude and forgotten,
Left abandoned on some rundown street,
It's meaning, purpose, whatever it had to sell,
Ignored!
How I tried to cause a rupture,
A crack in its ugly surface,
A way to reveal a self,
A concealed beauty that might impress,
Even one strange fool,
One unique folk who would look upon me,
And say with curiosity,
You should belong here or there
Or attract some kind of love,
From the mouths of those once hurt,
Who would know the pains of heartache,
Felt its shattering blow,
Yet still continue on,
knowing others were also broke,
And see me like a broken machine to mend
And possibly fix
Put back piece to piece,
And say, I'm pleased and feel refreshed,
By helping another I have helped myself
Or even hear the gentle whisper of some divine,
Some entity,
Who would surely feel the winds of fate,
For every human that roamed,
And would see me and know,
That I still had a path to follow,
A way of life,
A way to grow,
And show me with certainty that I could still go,
Still become someone or something,
And not be reduced to some fallen stone.
