Wishful Poem by sharon wildey

Wishful

I often wished I could have lived in the time of Enrico Crusoe
But I got KD Lange instead
I often wished I could have experienced the presence of Jesus
Not the one hanged in every christian church in the world
The one that taught the stories
I often wished I could have traveled with Grandma Moses
Sharing the terror of imminent death - by courage.
I got the Parkland kids instead
If I had been present at the time of the Nazis
I would have warned them, lead a revolution
But I got evangelicals instead
We are given what we are given
To do with or not
Legacy is not a new member at the tribal fire
It sits down and stares at us from the ages
Wishes are quickly slapped away
landing with a thud in the dry grass
What will you do with me today
asks the beast
I have sent you heros and teachers
Yet you remain wishful
What will you do with me today
?
