With A Rose Poem by Ben Huff

With A Rose

(This is one of my first, if not the, long peices, its more of a story then anything, but I hope you enjoy anyways)

When I woke this morning
And I saw your pretty young face
I realized that I drifted too far from you and
I realized it was too late to hurt

I got a new pair of eyes this morning
They see the world in such a different way
They will help me reach a better place
Although it will be far from your door

Before I could shut your door
I found out you bathed the sunshine that is your love
On someone else before our paths diverted
Now I wait here in your place, where the sun won’t ever shine

Now I’m waiting for my chance
To love you again
It’s taking so long to get there
But you’ll know once I’m there my darling

You make the mistake of loving me again
When I realize I’m about to lose my mind
The Way you treated me, and the pain I suffered
I hope no one else gets this scar you left on me

Now that you are gone from me
I can finally find a love that is free
Like a bird that sails to sea
Not your form of love, which took my glee

I save up my money to fly
Around this world to look for a matching soul
That will take me to that special place again
I know they are out there waiting for me

I follow the path of grate writers
All over this ill forsaken world
Letting my inspiration flow to keep me moving on
While looking for the light in the strangest of places

I want to find you
But I can only find you in my dreams
Loneliness is my only companion
While using a candle to count the stars

I find myself where I started
Eyes closed thinking blank thoughts
Without walking I wind up on an old friends doorstep
Muttering the words to Dylan’s “Idiot Wind”, a strange comfort

I’m whisked into a celebration, meant for me
Into a crowd of faces I did not expect to see
They all seem so happy to see me
And act as though it’s been years since we last spoke

They all want stories, so I tell those tales I know so well
Of riding with kings, and dancing ‘neath the Eiffel tower
And of being down below that lonesome bottom
While they tell me how the spaces I left filled with darkness

I closed my eyes to take it all in
When I opened them up again there you were
The one who comforted me in the dark times
Before I went so far away

You were laughing at all my jokes
Smiling ear to ear when our eyes met
I slipped and fell and you caught me
It was then I realized what I missed before

The emotional rescue I was looking for
I was lost wandering this world
But my help was where I left it
You made me everything I wanted to be

As the party disappeared
It was only you and I left alone
Smiling sweet nothings at each other
I knew I finally found that missing piece

My old friend walks down the stairs
I looked at him, rattled by his memory
I turned back to kiss you, but you were gone
I knew I missed my chance

I started out the door, saddened by the loss
He offers me morning tea before I go
I say no, say my farewell, and shut the door, drowning in thoughts
I turned around and there you were
With a rose
