With Eyes Closed Poem by Nelda P. Gardner

With Eyes Closed

Shut off, darkness, calmness, peace, and tranquility.
Then mind awakens and colors burst forth, brilliant, bold, and beautiful.
Arbitrary splotches transform themselves into shapes, objects, murals, portraits, and such.
They combine connecting one with the other. Each individual piece of art becomes part of a scene, a chapter, the beginning of a series.
Each grows chapters into novel; scenes into movie; movies into sequels.
Development continues, becoming clearer. Upon deeper scrutiny I see times in my life playing out visuals sharp as if looking at it as it is unfolding, though eyes are closed tight.
One loosely tied to the other though none complete in nature…………. (some endings already known) .
Progressions are sequential, bringing forth a multiple array of emotions. Controlling bodies responses…. Smiles………. Laughter…………Tears.
As quickly as the blank shapes and splotches formed their rolling display of my life it stops canvas open but blank…………….
Eyes pop open, heart racing, breathing almost a pant.
Amazed that…
With eyes closed we sometimes see things more clearly……. than when eyes are open wide.
