With Insomniac Eyes Poem by James Darwin Smith II

With Insomniac Eyes

With insomniac eyes I regress
Against what was not
Upon this heart’s grief
Set in motion
Emotional chaos
Tired of this mess
Internal burning
Crashing down
Feeling deterrent
Pity patter dismissal
Forging ahead anyways

Love’s sting hurts the worst
Past memories swollen of cold shoulders
Wishy washy decisions
Taking this heart for granted

Who am I but a poet fused in romance?
So many dedications sent away
Only to be locked up a solitude unbeknownst
In binding thoughts recluse

With strength I mend on
Nothing wrong with loneliness
Sure, I am a lover of romance
Yet, this life I live
My way, the happy way
Making myself better
In the behest of this soul’s new found epiphany
Giving power to what will be coming next
In the evolution of this spirit’s every ambition
After all life is only but a long drawn out test

Dreaming away
Flying with wings made of hope
Calamity has no power over me
Rejuvenated in mind, body and spirit
Undeniably unified upon these dreams
Upon a struggle where I shall be better than ever before

With insomniac eyes I implore
Of things that shall be
Prophecies decorated with faith honor and dignity

And now I can find solace in my own independence
Towards perhaps my destiny growing someday

No need for crutches for this heart
It travels alone healthy and free

With dreamy eyes I seize love
A worth gifted of self-cleansing pride
Absolving myself for past punishment
That I personally struck within this heart’s grief
All in the name of love’s sting

Now this heart is immune to that certain pain
Stronger than ever before
Living life one moment at a time
No more rushing for things
Flowing with what is given to me

I can sleep happy
No matter what or where I am
Because the future is unwritten
And the past is all but fading away

Older now, And wiser
Healthier in all ways
Yet, Feeling younger and more energized

With insomniac eyes I smile
Because an artist loves metaphors
Endorphins released into this harmony’s achievement
Traveling abroad a brand new world
Inside the realm of creativity where I feel humbled and blessed

Into a universe filled with so many places to roam
Flying to each star I call my home
As an Alien I feel so proud to explore
Uncharted dreams that will always grow

When it is time to sleep
My spirit will be one with peace
Traveling the whole universe, Always, beyond to forevermore

There is no ending to this exploration of self
No, there is so much more

Who will want to explore me?
I wait with no haste
As I live my life patiently

With insomniac eyes
One can still dream
