Without Their Voices Poem by Ugbo Caleb

Without Their Voices

Sassy, beautiful, she sits
With baggage beside her
Images of rants clouding
You've brought shame on our family
You don't have to leave. No one has

She watch the train trails its track
And bellows her song and steam
But memories of gossip once
ignored sat beside her
Why will she stay? This one has no shame. She may have had other lovers

And silence fell, to the echoes of
words from the cathedral
She has been excommunicated!
For God hates a divorce! But she
allowed the devil to use her

Ruing her past and actions
With her tears consoling
She felt like a fool, hasty and adamant
Nne, sorry I didn't listen to you! I should've bear it all! Please forgive me!

And the train took a gradual stop
Lovers exit and goes in, spouses hugging
Their smile smeared with glossy makeup
She stood up for the next ride, but without her baggage

A sigh of relief, fresh and deep, escape her lips
And no one noticed the bag left behind
For what lies in it are stagnation, lies, bruises, starvation and frightening dreams
When she choose to leave, to live free
