Women Have Forgotten Poem by James P. Roberts

Women Have Forgotten

Women have forgotten how to be quiet
in a room
If there is noise they must
they must contribute
some small particle of chocolate
eclair knowledge
whipped from a frothy mind.

Women have forgotten how to walk
around a room.
Rustling skirts and tink-tinkling
dishes, humming
softly an old Irish lullaby
learned from their
grandmothers They hustle bustle
knock kneed over linoleum
and plastic
chittering above the radio.

Women have forgotten how to smile
an accepting smile
Their teeth are hard their lips
painted killer red
Their eyes are masked
awaiting the corporate soul take over
no smile no genuine smile.

Perhaps it is an evolution
The papers scream this change
but only in a manner of speaking...
women have forgotten many things
and the men are afraid.
