Wonder Poem by Asa Gudmundsdottir

Wonder

Is there not wonder in all things?
That are,
have been,
and will be?

Is there not wonder in the fact that,
That we are able to love,
beyond ourselves?
Is it not a wonder
That we can touch,
and feel each other?

Is it not a wonder,
To know that we are not alone in the world,
To know that we are alive at this moment,
Is it not a wonder,
that we can even know anything at all?

Is it not a wonder
To know how to speak,
To know what must be said,
and to say it.
Is it not a wonder,
that I can even write this?

Is it not a wonder,
that we have eyes to see,
and the courage to see what must be seen,
And we have the strength to look when we must?
Is it not a wonder,
That you can even read this?

Is it not a wonder
That we have a world,
full of beauty,
full of promise,
and we are all connected,
Is it not a wonder,
That we are even here?

Is it not a wonder
That we exist,
That we are born from the cosmos,
That we are born from the eternal nothing,
Is not a wonder
that there is an eternal something, too?

Is it not a wonder
That we can feel such joy
That our bodies respond,
and we smile at the world
and infect it with an epidemic of happiness?
Is it not a wonder
That the world smiles back?

Are you not a wonder
in all of your fallacy and all of your success,
all of your good deeds and misdeeds,
for all that you are,
and all that you are not and will never be...

You are a wonder to me.
