wooden man
carved by care-full hands
lies half-buried in the sand and surf
the work etched by a master's blade
a single stroke upon the face
is now a smile
now a frown
it depends on how you look
the brow is furrowed
bewilderment
and deep set eyes
look far away
beyond all time and space
what aged trunk was felled upon some bygone day
to capture this
brave wonder
set so lovingly adrift…
