Words On A Screen Poem by Beatrice Sharpe

Words On A Screen

We talk
Through a screen on our phones
This world revolves around words
I'm sure it's known
You can't hear
on a phone
The person's voice is lost

We talk
I'm finding it hard to follow
What you mean by your words
They shouldn't be hard to swallow
But I can't
Understand them
through a screen
Your voice is lost

We talk
On the screen,
Appears the three dots;
What do those mean?
You send
They are words,
But they are toneless
Are you happy or sad?
Your voice is lost

We talk
The conversation's almost over
I ask you to clarify
You state is moreover
The tone isn't there
This isn't fair
The words are lost
