my dad
was all about work
'there's work to be done! '
but he didn't have enough fun
a slave to his work ethic
i think it made him mentally sick

jesus doesn't say,
'work, slave! '
he's kind, gentle, brave

bear fruit, he says
naturally
via abiding in him
and his encouraging words

and let his caring, creative father
kindly prune you - trim
then!
more vigor!
more vim!

thanks to you both
for making your home with me
like a contented, happy child
on your knee

may i always be
