Worshipers Of The Idol Tree Poem by Adookorn Auaduma

Worshipers Of The Idol Tree

You were mandated on oath to prune the giant
tree, plough its fruits and chop it down,
for an appointed time, If it fails to bear fruit

But you prostrate naked before the giant tree,
smiling, laughing and begging strangers
for crumbs of your inherited cake

In adoration you concur to the oath of lie,
and betrayal, as the mouthpiece of the idol tree;
you say, 'I'm the pillar, the flag and the banner
of life -- once you favour me, you favour every one,
share the cake for me and no body will cough'

Not enough, you borrow the saliva of serpent,
and infected our downtrodden destiny
with panic diseases that defile cure

O, walking corpse, how long will it take
your smile to transplant the dramatic tree
erected on our mother's penitent grave

How long will it take your self induced laughter
to shut off the hellish tree to not confiscate
our stray inheritance of distant dream

Can your laughter transfigure the callous tree
planted on the path of the common grasses
to distort and wither their sprouting bud?

You vie for the seat, can begging uproot
the draconian tree erected at the arena
of our life, for you to sprout seeds of sceptre,
if you don't chopdown the hemlock

How long will pleading transplant the flagitious
tree cultivated on our father's tomb to erase
the acts and memories of yesterday

How long will you fetch water from the political
stream with a sieving basket other than an earthen
pot as used by the NOTHERN clique --

Till the sun sink at the western horizon.
