Would I Were? Poem by Hanif Hassan Barbhuiya

Would I Were?

Would I were the effortless breeze,
Grandeur swung aloft the moonlit night,
Would travelled to you, kiss your eyelids,
As you sleep, under the starry sky,
To look at you till my heart's please.

Would I were the soft droplets of rain,
Falling down from heavens of happiness above,
Of ablating all your fears, washing away your tears,
As the drops roll down your skin,
To take away, your each and every pain.

Would I were the rays of the early morning sun,
Peeking upon the mountains and the moors,
Touching the suppleness of your fingers,
Feel forever its soft gentle touch,
To watch you leap around basking in eternal fun.

Would I were the lark in sky,
Of sweet melodious songs, tender-taken breath,
Upon my fair love's ripening smile,
Would sing forever in a sweet unrest,
To make you smile always and never let you cry.

Would I were the mirror in front of you,
Gazing on the new soft crested veneer,
Alluding the beauty, nought seen in a thousand years,
Awake from heavens to the doors of earth,
To never let you go, to hold you close for the moments few.
