Yellowstone Squirrel Poem by Joshua Merchand

Yellowstone Squirrel

Coffee steams; I am still; in the dawn light
Scurrying busy squirrel hits table top.
Quickly looks to the left; then dances right
He’s thirsty; so he sips morning dew drop.

Looks to me, then turns back to busy zeal.
Busy here. Scamper there. Skip, race, front, rear.
Treasure nuts are so near. Oh please, be still!
Stops to smell finger there He’s lost all fear.

Let me reach to my pack for the peanuts.
Something changed! search for crumb! oh stomach churn!
Got to go. Go, GO. GO! Rat race; “yea buts”‘
Why no nut? What broke down? Something to learn?

Important life treasured is not a race
Nuts to peace come with STILL. And at God’s pace.
