Yesterday Ii - Poem by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

Yesterday reclines on the tenuous
breath of ancestral drums,
and summons protocols for the crowning
of tomorrow.
A martinet, yonder, celebrates the sepia
aura in the spine of the vista of the last days;
atavism unfetters the imprecation of hastening
Dawns.

And angels lengthen azure apparels,
their voices, rush-waves of ocean choir.

A dim light, coral,
sweeps the din of ululation atop
ravines of departed tribes...

Yesterday mocks the horrors of today.

Today, epoch of fistula,
chants verses of prurience
with a cadence of inebriation;
stench and febrile warmth
of sinister songs echo the dirges
predicted Yesterday.

Sensual nostalgia strum the
strings beneath the saddled soul
for the rebirth of Yesterday...

Yesterday lives
