They open the sacred gate,
Then the storm walks in
And sweeps away the harvest
The flood like ‘Bolt' runs through

Africa, the land of greens, we had visions, we had missions, we had goals, a bright future, yet we find ourselves wallowing in circles. Corruption has eaten deeply into our greens leaving it pale. Where did we get it wrong? How did we get here? What do we need to do to correct this abnormalies, when are we going to be set free? We need to retrace our steps. Let's make the land fertile again, let's keep hope alive.
Yet, we have survived. The country it's self gave room to corruption through the colonists and took away our pride. But now we can't get a leader to correct our mistakes all because they are Interested in the goodies. Despite all, what will be, will surely be. The citizens will definitely scale through.
Our corrupt leaders has mislead their fellow Nigeria and suffer the citizen. We misuse our resources and treasure in the hands of the destroyers. We are heartbroken but yet we still survived.
This poem touches the heart of innocent, despite their hopes and struggles day by day, night over night, we still survived all the difficulties and face the challenges of our nation. Even our mystery leaders who are expected to lead by examples are misleading us but we had no choice than to follow them like a fatherless child... We are all complaining of CHANGE in the country and things are getting worse, hard for the survivals, heartbroken each day by day...! No matter the situation, we shall all SURVIVED and hope for real CHANGE to live a better life.

This piece of write up reveals the survival of Nigeria citizens despite how our corrupt leaders loots our resources and treasure. Nigeria is a place where the poor find it difficult to eat twice a day and yet we still survived

lovely write up sir, the poem really speaks about our country and society we find ourselves. Great sir
Nofiu Kehinde Nice poem poem sir, it revealed the devilish act of our corrupt leaders over the years..
Whatever doesn't kills us makes us stronger. In spite the I don't care attitude of our enthroned psychopath leaders, yet we're still surviving and won't seize to. Although we are not fools, yet the fools with big bellies and pockets full will still tag us the fools. Yet we'll never seize to survive. It dawned on me that this piece is peculiar to the African world most especially Nigeria. Our so-called political leaders syphoning our treasures which should be of benefit to the whole are taken as theirs alone. Nevertheless, I applaud the laudable efforts of Yomi Oguntoyinbo, for putting up the literary work Yet, We Have Survived (Tribute To Our Independence) . It is a piece revealing the true picture of the greedy leaders and their submissive followers who just have to dance to the tune of survival in hardships.
Nwachukwu Vivian CHIKODI.. The poem by YOMI OGUNTOYINBO is an intriguery story line that illustrate the survival in the midst of odds , Also it lays emphasis that no matter the trials, tribulation, challenges or constraint we find ourselves Via citizenry with love and unity we will survive and continue to survive any challenges of life... What a beautiful collection of pieces that epitomizes the current situation of our beloved country Nigeria, we live in the land of plenty but eats little in penury, we have put our whole trust on our so-called leaders.Despite all the disappointment and betrayal we have faced so far from our leaders, YET we still survived. Our leaders live good life and in comfort and we the citizen that voted them struggles to survive daily. we keep surviving about Nigeria's hurdles. In daylight they loot our money, Yet they spread famine, hunger and illness across the country. Yet we survived! HASSAN KUDIRAT ABIMBOLA
This poem is themed survival. Yomi Oguntoyinbo simply analyze the terribleness of famine in Nigeria, the hopelessness, colonialism, lack of builders, lack of saviour...yet! as a country, we have survived. in fact, the last stanza really painted the picture. ''Our spirit they have broken Like pot into pieces Our years of harvest scattered Like Gari in sand Yet, we have survived And survive, we shall continue to'' lastly, the poet really shocked my imagination by this. that despite all the ups and down, NIGERIANS ARE SURVIVING AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO SURVIVE INDEED! THANKS FOR THIS POEM, THERE IS HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.
The poem vividly captures the current state of Nigeria thereby affirming that despite the unpalatable experience, Nigerians are strong and are able to cope with every situation. It examines how our generation is entrusted to wicked hands and how uncertain the future is. It is so disheartening that the dogs that are meant to guard, bites. Despite our endowment, we suffer in our own father's land, unemployment rate is so high, wealth is fused, corruption is the order of the day, yet the able-bodied who could echo our voices are brainwashed by heartless politicians.

This is a well penned poem I must say and you have indeed critically examined the hullabaloo ravaging in the country today. Despite the ill treatments meted on us by our corruptible leaders who are hardened criminals in disguise with many atrocities committed by them. Yet, we have survived and we shall continue to survive if we set our priorities right. On no account should we allow them shatter our dreams with a Derica of Rice during elections. Our future is just too bright to be traded for their so called project STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE. NIGERIANS MUST ARISE, BREAK BARRIERS AND SET THEIR PRIORITIES RIGHT.
Great hope We have in Africa and Nigeria precisely. We must survive amidst the troubled storm that the leaders pushed us into. Thanks for this poem.
