You.... Poem by Brian Kamara

You....

Alone in an abyss of solitude
I lay.
Trapped in despair,
a hapless prisoner,
With no hope of solace.
On a lonely sojourn through life –
Where I knew no sun,
Until you came along.

You showed me how to live again,
Took away my doubts and apprehensions,
Pushed aside my shortcomings and misgivings,
And restored hope in my life.
Now I could smile again,
As the warm rays of your morning sun
Shone bright.

You showed me how to love,
And how it felt to be loved.
In your arms I knew comfort,
In your voice I knew assurance,
In your eyes I saw a future,
In you, I knew love.

You showed me intimacy,
Guided my naïve lips in yours;
Leaving me hungering for more
And more of you…..
Every day was a new experience,
A new adventure,
That drew us ever closer together.

You made me believe again
In life, in love, in you -
In myself.
With you there,
Everything seemed right.
It was a new beginning,
For us both.

You taught me how to laugh,
With little anecdotes
Of life and love.
You knew just what to say
To make me smile,
And cherish our moments together.

Now, look at these tears –
You’ve taught me that as well.
See them fall,
Slowly, yet rhythmically,
As if they too share my pain.
And with you gone
They fall free, and
I am helpless to hold them back,
For I do not see the need anymore.

All around is dark and cold,
Now as the sun sets,
and I, back to my lonesome
abyss I lapse,
where the darkness
once again envelopes me,
and hopeless I am left to stare
at the last rays,
of what used to be my sun.
