You And I (Written For A Friend To Their Significant Other) Poem by Dan Ochs

You And I (Written For A Friend To Their Significant Other)

Friends you and I, Friends can we Last?
Can we stay only friends? I hope our friendship can last.

I never expected to meet you…

At the start
I must have come off as a jerk
For that I am sorry
It’s because my heart has known so much hurt

But you took it quite well
And still wanted to talk
I guess time will only tell
If in this friendship we can walk

Friends you and I, Friends can we Last?
Can we stay only friends? I hope our friendship can last.

Why does he want to be my friend?
Is it for profit or gain?
Why does he need a picture,
When I gave him my name?

Why does he want to be my friend,
When I live so far away?
Does he just want to be friends?
I ask these questions time and time again

Friends you and I, Friends can we Last?
Could we be more than friends? I don’t want our time to pass.

You call and your voice brings a smile
My Hindi isn’t great, and often brings you a laugh
English not your native tongue, and often brings me a laugh
So we talk and we laugh and we smile
And I realize
I haven’t been this happy in a while

Could we be more than friends?
A question I’m scared to ask
Because age brings the gap between us
And I do not want our time to pass
