One day I came across
A map so strange I wondered.
Not of where I was but –
The type of tape that numbered:
Thirty miles from Preston.
Twenty yards from kettle.
Fifteen mins from Aunty Sue’s.
Next left to get to Settle.
A steady walk to Blackpool.
A stone’s throw from the beach.
A golden mile to empty purse.
A frugal point to teach.
A postcard from Doncaster.
A message to who knows who.
A greeting from Pwllheli.
A pointed sign to zoo.
A hundred leagues to London.
Ten fathoms to cavernous lava.
Fifteen droppings to rabbit hole.
A flight to Bratislava.
Many ways to show the from
And especially the to.
Such varied range I’d never seen
For when set to say ‘Adieu! ’
