You Lost!

Rating: 4.0

You Lost!

You thought that if you routed me
from moment I was born
That I would break in all of me
and be beyond reform

Transcending all the broken bits
strong though very worn
Bodies break and beauty fades
I was so frail forlorn
A fragile, agile, pretty thing
innocent as a fawn

...

But there’s a place that no-one gets
Not Mummy, Daddy, Pop
Nor any of the men who paid
to get their ‘one stop shop’

...

A soldier’s born, maybe she’s brave
Or ‘praps she just can’t feel
She doesn’t flinch with sudden noise
Stoicism’s appeal?
...

In any case, beyond the front
in deepest place within
Lies jewel of heart, pummelled, carved
a diamond precious rare

Inviolable, surviving all
with strength beyond compare
Holding on to One who sees
I knew that I would win
