You Should Try Greek Food Poem by Mitchell Hood

You Should Try Greek Food

You should try Greek food, just a suggestion
And if you’re Greek, then try Chinese
I suppose it isn’t out of the question
That you’ve already tried each of these
Maybe they give you indigestion
Then try something else, maybe blue cheese

Trying new food is a good idea
Nothing ventured means nothing gained
Worst case scenario: diarrhoea
Try more than food. Ever been on a plane?
Try taking a trip. How about Korea?
Indonesia? China? Spain?

Or maybe Colombia? Canada? Chad?
Travel. There is plenty to see
Ask your bother, your boss, or your dad
You don’t have to take it from me
Ask, just to hear stories, you’ll be glad
Ask a ton of people, don’t stop at three

Talk to old people, they have a lot to say
Most are wise, others just like to chatter
Believe it or not, you’ll be old one day
A little wiser and a little sadder
You’ll get pretty lonely along the way
And being listened-to will matter

On the rise to old age, there are plenty of stops
Between now and then, you’ll have many careers
You’ll work in offices, factories and shops
But don’t let your work age you ahead of your years
Work hard, do well, and get to the top
Savour the laughter, the times, and the tears

Live well, love well, and find a good mate
To keep your heart feeling as light as a feather
Kiss lots, smile more, and keep going on dates
Remember the small things that keep you together
There is plenty of good love, but yours will be great
If it stays strong in sunshine as well as foul weather

And if you have kids- four, three, or just two
Pay them the devotion and respect that you should
Tell them you’re proud of all that they do
One day they’ll do things that you wish you could
Teach them the lessons you’ve had taught to you
And make them try Greek food, I hear that it’s good
