Young; 4.26.21 Poem by Feramine Vonwae

Young; 4.26.21

I'm bleeding
I'm crying
The world that I once knew
Is now prying on my sadness
I wish I was still young

I wish I didn't understand
What the real world really is
When people tell you
To enjoy your youth
They're telling you to enjoy your freedom

Because when you get older
All you will have are the chains
The chains of the law, the people and unfairness

When you're younger
All you can think about is what it's like to be
Older
What it's like to be an adult

You want to grow up so quickly to be one
Because you think it's unfair
But you haven't seen unfairness yet

The young don't know what it's like to be older
I would know
Because I wasn't able to enjoy my childhood
I grew up and matured
Quicker because of what happened to me
In my past

If I were still young
I would enjoy my childhood
Because you don't know what it's like to be older

Enjoy it
Because one day
All of it will be taken away
Your purity
Your happiness
And worst of all
Your freedom
