You're Gone
Yet I know you're still here
Beyond your body, my tears
It's hard the feeling this brings,
Smack in the heart, still feeling the sting
I hope you looked for the light
I hope you're not struggling, that there's no fight
To go on, to create, to float, to be,
What's it like Grandma, where you are now
What's it like, can you tell me somehow?
Are you there yet, Can you see us all down here
Are you there yet, beyond the fear?
I'm crying you know, can hardly see through my tears
In front of others I don't really know
Are you happy now Grandma?
Now that your body and baggage are left behind
Did you meet all the ones waiting for you on the other side?
I know you're there, I know you've found them
I have faith you made the journey ok
It's just hard being left behind to mourn you
To celebrate the way we remember you
The grace, the love, the gentleness, still there
While your body turned on you,
While your body enslaved you
I'm glad you finally let yourself be free,
I'm glad too, I no longer have to see you that way
Who knows, you were probably free while you were still here
The answers to why you stayed so long, I doubt I'll ever hear
I miss you already, somehow, and I'm sad and angry you're gone
I love you Grandma and right now I'm not gonna bother trying to be strong
