Sixty One

Sixty flames of emanating light,
Cast shadows across four walls.
Sixty flames illuminate the night,
Jealous; the lonely moon mourns.

Sixty, precious, winking flames,
A sight to melt most frozen of heart.
Tipsy guesses for the last shrinking rays,
Excitement felt in rosy lips that part.

Meanwhile the bemoaning, naked night,
Searches for its lost stars.
We smile, unknowing and revel in delight,
At the pilfered jewels, that be only ours.

The heavens outside, no more adorned
With bright ornaments aglow.
Instead inside, only we are ...
