As the dark clouds of rain are gathering in the sky
The birds sing and whistle in the parkland nearby
From listening to Nature's creatures knowledge of weather we do gain
The birds always whistle and sing before rain

The rain has fallen steadily through the morning to swell the creek and fill the roadside drain
And on the blackwood tree the white backed magpie is singing his kind always sings in wind and rain
This dry countryside needs rain as much as we need to drink water but the difference between Mother Earth and you and I
Is that after rain the earth again starts living but we are dead forever when we die,

Ants in their billions on the dry dusty ground crawl
Along with flies and skinks the only forms of life where rain never does fall
Us humans could not hope to live in a world without rain
So of wet and windy weather why do some people complain

We did have a rather wet winter but of that one ought not to complain
The summer could be dry and thirsty we do need Nature's gift of rain
In two months of warm and dry weather the paddocks would look bare and brown
And the reservoir down below half full that supplies water to the people of the town

The countryside looking lush and green after the recent heavy rain
And brown stormwater overflowing in creek, river and drain
And flooding the paddocks by every waterway
For the past month it has rained every night and almost every day

The white backed magpie singing and skies so gloomy gray
And magpie does sound happy on such a gloomy day
But why is magpie happy what reason for his joy
All in the depths of Winter this morning in July? .

Goodbye to cloudy skies and wind and rain
And so nice to see the sun shine out again
Four days of rain and river flowing bank high
And welcome sun you brighten up the sky.
