Once Again A Window (Вот Опять Окно)
Originally By Marina Tsevetaeva
Translated by Sam Klebanov and Rayna Haque
Through the window,
Where again neither sleeps-
Perhaps they sip mulled wine,
Perhaps they sit and stare.
Or where two embrace-
Arm in arm-
Hand in hand-
Every house has their own.
It is neither candles nor lamps that illuminate the dark:
It is sleepless eyes!
The scream of separation and reunion,
You are the window in the night.
Perhaps a hundred candles,
Perhaps three…
My mind knows no peace,
And now we have the same.
Pray my friend for a sleepless home,
For a window with a flame.
