Richard Lewin Biography

Grew up in Saint Joseph, MO and receive an M.A. in English (Creative Writing) from U of MO. Later took some graduate work there. Studied poety writing with Dr. John Neihardt. Later studied playwriting at American Theatre wing. Spend years writing book and lyrics for musical theatre. Sold nothing. Earned M.S. in Social Work from Columbia U. and worked mainly in child welfare in NYC. Became a United Way executive, working in Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas and Northern New Jersey. Returned to Saint Joseph in late 1990s. Now spend more and more time writing poetry.)

In a chubby little hand

Now I were old
I hums and lingers
About on a crutch
I hears the singer's
Unlikely song

And I cups my boney fingers
