Richard Schumacher Biography

Ric Schumacher is an ordained Unity minister and a nationally recognized speaker, trainer and writer. His writing has appeared in newspapers, magazines and anthologies, including articles in Unity Magazine, Daily Word and Journey Magazine. He has written for the following newspapers: Youngstown Vindicator, and The Warren Tribune Chronicle. The Review Newspapers carried his regular weekly column titled Positive Perspectives on Parenting. He, along with another minister shared a regular column in The Senior News, a Mahoning Valley based monthly. For eight years, The Warren Tribune Chronicle has given Ric a full page on Christmas Eve for one of his Christmas Fables. His poetry has appeared in Unity Magazine and Daily Word Magazine. Two of his pieces were selected for inclusion in Unity’s anthology Truth the Poet Sings. His poem The Hope of Glory was chosen as one of the selected readings in Wings of Song, Unity’s current hymnal. Ric is a part time professor in the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Youngstown State University. As a consultant, he has worked with Unity and Religious Science Churches on organizational development issues including: strategic planning, board and key leadership development, and conflict as a source of growth. As an avocational archaeologist, Ric has been to the Holy Land where he participated in an archeological dig known as the Megiddo Expedition. The Megiddo Expedition operates under the auspices of Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel. The Senior U.S. partner is Penn State University. Consortium Universities include: The Universities of George Washington, Loyola Marymount, Southern California, Vanderbilt (USA) and Bern (Switzerland) . Megiddo may be the single most important site in Biblical archeology. Megiddo is the only site referenced in both the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament) and the New Testament. It is mentioned in the book of Kings and is the setting of Armageddon referred to in Revelation Chapter 16. He has worked with the Maya Research Program exploring and mapping unexcavated Mayan sites in the sub-tropical rainforest jungle of Belize. In addition, Ric has participated in archaeological digs and conducted vernacular architectural research on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the American Academy of Religion, and a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He has held memberships in The North American Patristics Society, The American Anthropological Association and an Associate membership of Committee for the Scientific Examination of Religion. Ric has served as a board member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The American Lung Association, The Northeast Ohio Task Force on AIDS and the Kidney Foundation. He served as a national board member for Warriors’ Journey Home, whose mission is to provide spiritual healing and soul repair for veterans, their families and the community and has served as an advisory board for Valor Home, providing transitional housing for homeless veterans. Ric has a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies with concentrations in archaeology, Islamic and Judaic studies and a master’s degree in American Studies. Ric lives in Akron, Ohio with his wife Heather, an English Red Tick Coon Hound named Tucker, a Blue Tick Coon Hound named Lexi and a grey cat named Earl. In his free time, Ric enjoys photography and watercolor painting.)
