Robert Beckerman Poems

It was all spinning but here I am
Sprawled across your lilac sheets
Eyes closed sipping warm Puerto Rican rum
Shy and drunk
...

Leaps into the New World
Our steps are nothing special
Just an ode to tradition
...

I met death last night
In a small white bedroom she laid
I met death for the first time
Frightened, though the blessing of youth was upon me
...

For my brother I will not meet
End your curiosity if you can
Our worlds are great distances apart
Let us take refuge in our desolate sky
...

Sun return
To your coastal abyss
The night is now of interest
...

6.

You came all this way.

Taking the route those before you did.
You came all this way to us.

Spinning But Here I Am

It was all spinning but here I am
Sprawled across your lilac sheets
Eyes closed sipping warm Puerto Rican rum
Shy and drunk

It was all spinning but here I am
Looking at you in repose
Still with heavy breath like a tired dog
You avoid my eyes

It was all spinning but here I am
Leaving you for the daylight
Trading pieces of each other forever
In day dreams

It was all spinning but it continues
Till the next morning yearning
Rest on a bed of lilac
Float on river of Rum,
Free, till the new moon rises
