A Life In A Year

buds of ignorance drip dropp the branches
tree of green with smile of teeth
naivety fooled us all equally
these pink buds hold the miracle of joy
shielded from the world, kept to ourselves
as branches grow stronger of pluck
roots dig shallow through nerve of luck
prepared for structured, simple, spring

hooray for us call out the birds
for they find rapture in the bees
shared together mutual freedom
shared together on first blossomed flowers
perceptions, ideas pollenate the air
the sun bathes us as we bask in glory
and summer fills our heads with the best of stories

but, alas it was not to last
unfairly with loss of liberty
these flowers slowly shrivel
the leaves turn sour and die
ideas fade to books called fables
minds of colour neutralise to bland
electric tv burns the retina cables
autumn brown trees hand in hand

seems colder still this moment now
once we new some higher life
but it seems we've forgotten now
slow down a mind that once was a kite
things turn back to white and back
these days older, colder, longer
spend more time sleeping in sack
this cruel winter, both our first and last
