Passing Through

It seems just like yesterday when my hair was thick and long
And I sat down beside you as we shared a simple song
But time has surely flown on by and left me here so blue
And now I've finally realized that you were just passing through

With all my yesterdays behind me I keep on wondering why
That every time I think about you all I can do is cry
For it's the gentle way you treated me that I truly miss
As I close my eyes and think of you and your warm and tender kiss

But time has surely flown on by and left me here so blue
And now I finally realized that you were just passing through

Mother when you were here with me
My heart it soared so high
But then the lord took you away and I had to wonder why
They'll never be another to replace the love you gave
And I will carry the thought of you with me to the grave

It's a shame that time has flown on by and left me here so blue
But some day soon we'll be together again when I'm finished passing through.
