Graduation Day

When I wear my cap and gown
you wont be with me
oh God how i wish you could
be there in the crowd.
I wish you could see
what I have done with my life
if only I could see you smile.
I waited too long
and now your gone.
I wont see your face
among strange smiles
the joy has been dulled
victory doesnt dance upon my heart
so many years i've leaned on you
when you should have leaned on me
I'll stand with happy faces
proud families looking on
my heart hides cowering
in the corner of my soul
this face parades a lie
I'll be missing you
missing you
With empty arms
each step across the stage
the life God poured into
this trembling thing called me
is draining out
nothing smells the same
and the taste brings bitterness
upon my lips
glory is but a mist of yesterday
I walk alone with weary bones
a golden tassle hanging down
when I wear my cap and gown
