Roderick Dwayne Gering Poems

I cannot recall exactly when, was it a dream
Was I walking on the backstreets of memory
A voice asked me, 'Do you know the difference
Between the light and the dark? '
...

I dread to fall into a fitful sleep
To dream and nightmare in shadows
Then something calls to me out of the deep
To lay in green pastured meadows
...

Caught in the snow
Barren be the wastelands
Where tasteless fruit grow
No one knows or comprehends
...

She tenderly wept
While in my arm's embrace
She cried herself to sleep
Life was but a trace
...

People talk about other places
That I don’t care to know
For I’ve been to too many places
And sometimes I guess it shows
...

Sometimes I ponder
Where the dead
Go beyond materialistic bonds
...

Loss of God
Disorientation?
No!
Just a momentary lapse
...

We all wish for miracles

The thunderclap
Of a Savior's hand
...

Joined the U.S. Air Force and traveled extensively during the 1980's. Spent a total of 10 years in Europe (6 years as a civilian in Germany) Became acquainted with a diverse multitude of people and cultures while living near Frankfurt, Germany. Returned to the U.S. and continued my vagabond ways during the 1990's. Settled in Bellingham after the turn of the millennium. My talents include Poetry, animation and graphic art. Interested in the paranormal and unexplained mysteries of our Mother Earth. Enjoy gothic novels and science fiction epics brought to the big screen. Favorite poetic forms are the Celtic Bard traditions that I encountered while living in Germany. Also became inspired by an 18th century style, using a unique pentameter over 9 lines per verse. It has become a favorite of mine and I plan to use more often. It is like writing a short story with poetic verse. Also do animations based on fantasy and sci fi themes as well as create posters and artwork based on my poetry.)

On Twilight’s Edge

I cannot recall exactly when, was it a dream
Was I walking on the backstreets of memory
A voice asked me, 'Do you know the difference
Between the light and the dark? '
Echoes led me deep into a cold, dark place
Tortured growls from a wounded mother beast
I stood in awe of the horror to be unleashed
Lost souls shrieked petitions before Heaven
Wolves donned wool of the slaughtered Lamb
Shepherds wandered off into the wilderness
'I thought I could discern the difference'
I cried out, 'I was mistaken! ! '
The voice answered, 'If you truly knew
Neither dark nor light would be necessary
Only twilight's edge remains
Where the night and the day always meet
Returning to here and now, tears in my eyes
Bathing in the glow of twilight's edge
The birds went quiet
For precious moments
Peace from beyond dried my tears
Suddenly I thought I had glimpsed Paradise
