Ornamental grass,
how your liveliness surpass
the meadow of your dwelling;
gathered together, lofty and slender,
like a crowd of anorexic glamour girls
with the latest hair-do that sways in a breeze;
you stand tall, reaching,
as though you wish to paint on heaven’s canvas
with your brush of downy heads.
Oh feathered fluffs of autumn ochres,
whisper softly as you paint;
lift your silky brushes to render
a scene of ceaseless wonder and splendour,
exalt your tops and reach for the heavens;
create for me a majestic masterpiece
that has power to reveal the joy of nature’s radiance.
