Many many years ago
I existed before I was formed
I was two and then one
Now I'm six, within one
...
Solely lonely only
The need to sing a song
Lacking the voice to sing
Expressing my sorrow with a poem
...
Mango tree mango tree
Mango tree is normally sweet
When I drink I normally sleep
When I sleep I normally dream
...
If I were; a star, you would be my night
A day, you would be my sun
A heart, you would be my beat
A skin, you would be my feel
...
It's a normal day,
The moon reflects white light
While the sun shines so bright
Flocks of birds, full of flight
...
Let the beauty in my words
Be the silent aroma that brings the hungry close
To the kitchen of my ideas
'Cos profound, is the silence found
...
Our Nigeria, Evergreen
Many many years ago
I existed before I was formed
I was two and then one
Now I'm six, within one
Yet in total, thirty-six
From the blue, comes my fate decreed
Doom and gloom, my end forecast
Far they must see, from up the mast
The ferocious sun has set
And my new dawn in prelude
Watch thee, as I gain high altitudes
Perhaps, what made them say
That my being, is to fade
'Petrocalypse'…perhaps?
Inner conflicts and mishaps?
Who to head me? Yes perhaps!
But evicted, I am from
Enlisted odd ends of mine
Misconstrued? Yes they were!
Cause united, I still stand
And in one piece, I still live
United and in peace
Running through my diverse veins
Is a single blood of green
From the time you tried to leave
Still lives, horrendous a scar, evergreen!
But like the carousel, I am back
At the onset that I start
Endless problems sets me back
But like the carousel yet again
I will sail through again and again
Where lies faith, there lies progress
Where lies unity, there lies peace
So united, I will stand
And in one piece, I will live
United and in peace
